چکیده

Various two-breed cross cow groups were mated to Charolais and Limousin bulls to produce a total of574 three-breed cross calves over a two-year period. Average birth weights were 81.2 Ib and 76.2 Ib for calves produced from Charolais and Limousin sires, respectively. Calving assistance was required for 12.4 percent ofCharolais-sired calves and 4.0 percent of the Limousin-sired calves. Charolais-sired calves outgainetl Limousin-sired calves by .11 Ib/day from birth to weaning (2.04 vs.I.93 Ib/day) and were 291b heavier at weaning (515 vs. 486Ib). At weaning, calves from both sire breeds were very uniform and had quite acceptable conformation scores.

Comparison of Machine Milkout and Calf Nursing Techniques for Estimating Milk Yields of Various Two-Breed Cross Range Cows

13.5 Ib indicated a very desirable level of tenderness. A high level of consumer acceptability would be anticipated for meat from these carcasses. An economic evaluation of feedlot performance ofCharolais and Limousin sired steers and heifers is presented in Table 4. Feed costs, overhead costs and carcass sale value were based on prevailing prices for January 7, 1980. Limousin sired steers retu...

Comparison of Feedlot Performance and Carcass Traits of Charolais and Brahman Sired Three-Breed Cross Calves

Feedlot performance and carcass traits were compared between Charolais and Brahman sired three-breed cross calves. Data were obtained on 251 calves (127 heifers and 124 steers). All calves were placed on a self-fed finishing ration immediately after wea, ning and slaughtered when each animal attained an estimated low choice carcass grade. Feedlot performance favored calves sired by Charolais. Ch...

Growth Performance, Carcass Characteristics, and Profitability of Steers Sired by Terminal vs. Maternal Bulls

Steer progeny (n = 80) produced by mating British crossbred females to one of three terminal (Charolais) sires or one of five maternal (Angus or Red Angus-Composite) sires were evaluated from birth to harvest to compare the effects of sire type (terminal vs. maternal) on growth performance, carcass characteristics, and net return per head. Steers sired by terminal bulls were heavier (P < 0.05) ...

Factors affecting time intervals in parturition in beef cattle.

Birth traits of 68 Angus and 49 Charolais x Angus calves sired by four Angus and seven Charolais bulls, respectively, were studied. Timed intervals during the calving process were compared between breed of sire groups. The Charolais sired calves required an average of 3.7 rain longer from the first appearance of the water bag until the feet were first visible; 8.1 rain longer (P<.01) from the t...

Maternal performance of 134 Hereford (H), Brangus (B), and reciprocal crossbred (H x B and B x H) cows from 2 to 7 yr of age was evaluated under semidesert conditions in this study. Calves produced by 2- and 3-yr-old cows were sired by Brangus and Hereford bulls. Calves produced by 4- to 7-yr-old cows were sired by Charolais bulls. Breed of sire and breed of dam of cow affected kilograms of wea...
